Published on 04 April 2025
Queensland’s largest car and bike festival, Rare Spares Rockynats, kicked off in spectacular style on Friday 4th April, with thousands of eager motorsport fans descending on the city of Rockhampton from across Queensland and interstate ready to enjoy a weekend of high-octane action.
Now in its fifth consecutive year, Rockhampton Region Mayor Tony Williams affirmed that the event has cemented its place as an iconic feature on Australia’s automotive event calendar.
“Rockynats has become a must-attend event for car and bike enthusiasts across the country, and we’re proud to once again showcase our beautiful region to thousands of visitors,” Mayor Williams stated. “The unique street format, accessibility, and sheer variety of on-and off-track action are what keep people coming back year after year, and Rockynats 05 is shaping up to be no exception.”
The day’s biggest spectacle, the fan-favourite Street Parade, once again kickstarted the event with a record 1105 cars and bikes cruising from the Rockhampton Showgrounds through CBD in what is the largest street parade in Australia. Thousands of spectators lined the streets, soaking up the rumble of engines and gleaming chrome as proud owners showcased their pride and joy.
Friday’s program also introduced several exciting new additions to the Rockynats line-up, including the debut of off-road remote control car racing and FMX Kaos BMX stunt shows.
As the sun set on an action-packed opening day, fans were treated to a one-night-only showcase from Rockhampton Speedway. Secretary of the Rockhampton Saloon Car Club, Jessica Bramham, says the inclusion of speedway in the Rockynats 05 program was a game-changer for both the event and the local motorsport community.
“It’s been an absolute hit with spectators and a major drawcard in what’s shaping up to be the biggest off-the-track program Rockynats has ever seen,” Jess said. “We’re thrilled to partner with Rockynats and contribute to delivering even more value for fans, year on year.”
For the local club, it was also a once-in-a-generation opportunity to put the club, its people, and its passion in the national spotlight.
“This is our chance to show Australia what we already know – how talented our local drivers are and how exciting the sport is. It’s a proud moment for the club and a huge boost for the future of Speedway in our region,” Jess said.
The excitement is far from over, with the drag racing and burnout competitions officially kicking off tomorrow. With three days of non-stop motorsport mayhem ahead, last-minute tickets are still available for those looking to experience the adrenaline firsthand. Adult single-day passes start at just $44.40, with kids 12 and under entering free.
