Local Passion, National Impact: Repco and Rockynats Drive Growth
Published on 16 April 2026
As the engines fire up, the final layer of polish is applied to hundreds of bonnets, and thousands of motorsport enthusiasts are beginning to roll into Rockhampton for Rare Spares & Repco Rockynats 06 this weekend, the spotlight isn’t just on the horsepower and polished chrome, it’s on the people, businesses and local community that make an event of this scale possible.
Backed by major naming rights sponsors Rare Spares and Repco, Rockynats has grown into far more than a car festival. It’s a powerful economic driver for the region, drawing visitors from across the state and beyond, filling local accommodation venues, supporting local hospitality hotspots, and creating opportunities for local businesses both big and small to thrive. From pubs serving up steaks as the sun sets after a big day on the track to workshops working around the clock to assist with last-minute adjustments and repairs, the entire community feels the influence of an event of this scale.
For a regional city like Rockhampton, it’s a chance to showcase not only its passion for tourism, but its capability to host a nationally recognised event that puts the region firmly on the map.
For Repco, that connection to community sits at the heart of everything they do. While the brand is recognised nationwide, it’s the local teams on the ground who bring that support to life, one of which is die-hard Rockynats fan, Denver Hill, from their North Rockhampton store. Now in his sixth year with the company, Denver’s journey started as a work experience placement while still at school and quickly turned into something more.
“I started when I was in school doing work experience, and I really enjoy my days here,” he says. “I love working with cars. My dad’s a mechanic, so it’s in the family and I really enjoy getting to know the people who come through the door.”
That connection to customers is what defines the Repco experience, particularly in regional communities where relationships matter.
“To me, being part of Repco means being part of a strong team culture,” Denver explains.
It’s also where shared passion comes into play. One of his favourite regular customers is currently working on a dream build.
“We’ve got a customer who comes in all the time working on a Walkinshaw — that’s my dream car. We always have a good chat when he comes in chasing parts. It’s always interesting.”
Like many in the Rockynats community, Denver isn’t just helping others build their dream cars. He’s also built one of his own.
“My pride and joy is my 2014 VF Commodore, V6 manual. It took me 18 months to find it and I couldn’t love it more.”
It’s this kind of passion that fuels Rockynats, and why the event resonates so strongly with both locals and visitors alike. As for what not to miss this weekend, Denver doesn’t hesitate.
“Definitely the Elite Pavillion. The calibre of the cars is next level and seeing how much time, effort and passion that is poured into them is always a highlight.”
Beyond the polished finishes, he encourages people to slow down and take it all in.
“The Show N Shine along Quay Street and the waterfront is a must. There are so many cars, and every single one has a story. You’ve really got to take your time with it.”
It’s those stories, and the people behind them, that make Rockynats such a valuable event for the region.
“It creates fantastic tourism opportunities. You can always tell it’s Rockynats season, you see something special driving past everywhere you go. It definitely has a big impact on the community and local businesses.”
For those preparing to hit the streets or the showgrounds this weekend, Denver has one simple recommendation to keep your car looking its best.
“Bowden’s Nano Wash — it’s what I’ve personally used for year. It’s pH neutral and works great every time.”
