Cruising

Entrant and car queueing for Street Drags

During Rockynats you can expect to see the streets of Rockhampton filled with cars and bikes of every shape, era and torque.

Over the Easter long weekend, the Rockynats Cruising zone, located in the CBD Precinct, comes alive with roaring engines, immaculate paintwork and impressive vintage remodelling.

This zone is the Show n’ Shine overflow, but these cars aren’t just on display! All entrants, with both registered and unregistered cars, will have the chance to cruise within the CBD precinct (East Street and Bolsover Street) on a dedicated route.

For some of these old beautiful vehicles, this is one of their only opportunities to roll through the Rockhampton CBD. Take the time to stroll through the parked cars and bikes and chat to their owners, they may even offer to take you for a ride.

When you aren’t admiring the vehicles or cruising the streets, you can enjoy food, live music, cafes and entertainment in this lively part of Rockynats.

Where and when can I see the Cruising zone?

This area will be open Saturday and Sunday of the Easter long weekend, which makes it a perfect spot to grab a bite, have a rest, or spend a few hours in between other events and entertainment. The Cruising zone is conveniently located in the CBD on East Street and Bolsover Street, connected by Denham, William and Derby Street. With an assortment of local cafes and Rockynats food trucks in this area, you can take a moment to refuel your own tank while admiring the vehicles cruising by.

Spectators Tips

In this free-moving part of Rockynats, there is plenty to see and do.

Here are some tips on how to make the most of the Cruising zone.

  • Say hello to the drivers and let them tell you a little bit about their vehicle.
  • Ask for a ride. If you ask politely, most drivers would love to take you for a cruise through the zone.
  • Make this your pit stop. Use the Rockynats app to check the opening times for local cafes. Sitting at a cafe is a fantastic way to watch the cruising cars and bikes go past.
  • Use the Rockynats program on the event app to plan your time in the Cruising zone around other events happening at Rockynats.
  • Wear good walking shoes. This is a large area, so good footwear will make it much easier to see the whole Cruising zone.
  • Bring a hat, sunscreen and water. Much of this precinct is outside, and the temperature in April can be hot. Make sure you are prepared for the weather so that you can spend ample time appreciating these vehicles.
  • Buckle up. These cars may be vintage, but the road rules still apply. Please wear a seatbelt to ensure you are safe while cruising.

Whether you like a vintage 1950s Chevrolet or a jacked-up modern Landcruiser, you’ll have more than enough to admire at Rockynats.

The Cruising zone will be open Saturday and Sunday, so get the family together and book your Rockynats tickets.
